ALTARS: Week 1
What if the condition of your heart is the single most important factor in everything else that flows from your life? That is exactly the challenge placed before us in this opening message of the Altars series. Drawing from the wisdom of Proverbs 4, we are confronted with a call that is as urgent today as it was when Solomon first spoke it to his son: guard your heart above all else, because everything downstream in your life is shaped by what is happening at the source. The message walks us through four vital functions of the heart. We receive, meaning we must be intentional about what voices and influences we allow to shape us. We surrender, meaning the altar is not a one-time moment but a daily, ongoing offering of our whole lives to God. We guard, meaning we take seriously the responsibility to protect what God is doing within us. And when we do those things faithfully, life flows out of us in ways that affect everyone around us. The progression is simple but profound: heart, home, church, region. What God wants to do through us always begins with what he wants to do within us. This is not a message about trying harder or being more religious. It is an invitation to come back to a place of genuine surrender and let God transform us from the inside out.
