Altars: Week 2
What if the most powerful spiritual environment we could ever create was not a church building, but our own home? That is the provocative question at the heart of this message, which draws from the ancient words of Deuteronomy 6 to challenge us to think differently about the spaces we inhabit every day. Moses instructs the people of Israel to let God's words saturate every moment of their lives, from the morning rise to the evening rest, from the dinner table to the road they walk. The insight here is not just practical, it is deeply formational. Every home already has an altar, meaning every household already orbits around something. The real question is whether that center is something temporary and ultimately unsatisfying, or whether it is the living God. We are invited to examine what our homes are quietly preaching to the people who live in them, because whether we are intentional about it or not, our children, our spouses, and our neighbors are reading the sermon our lives are delivering. This is a call to consecrate, to deliberately set apart our homes as places where God's presence is honored, his word is practiced, and his purposes are pursued.
