Signs: Week 1

Jul 5, 2026

We all ask God for signs at pivotal moments in our lives—whether it's about a job, a relationship, or a difficult decision we're facing. But what if we've been missing the point entirely? This powerful message challenges us to examine whether we're chasing after signs or pursuing the Savior those signs point toward. Drawing from the Gospel of John, we discover that John intentionally structures his gospel around seven miraculous signs, but he never calls them miracles—he calls them signs. Why? Because signs aren't destinations; they point beyond themselves to something greater. John's entire purpose, as stated in John 20:30-31, is that we might believe Jesus is the Messiah and have life in His name. The danger we face is becoming so fixated on the signs that we miss what they reveal about Jesus Himself. Are we looking for deliverance or the Deliverer? Do we want a miracle or the Miracle Worker? Sometimes Jesus calms the storm around us, but sometimes He calms the storm within us—and both require faith. The call isn't just to admire Jesus from a distance, but to fully entrust ourselves to Him, placing the full weight of our hopes, dreams, failures, and circumstances on Him. That's when we truly experience the abundant life He promises.
